Christian Patchell, UArts Illustration faculty, visits our class and gives a lecture on keeping sketchbooks to kick off the Illustrated Journal Project. He calls sketchbooks "the gym for artists," for it is the place where they "work out" their ideas. Patch discusses how important keeping sketchbooks has been to him both as an artist and as a cancer survivor. Patch's work was recently shown in the "The Art of Healing Exhibit" at the University in the President's Office  in Nov 2010.

Patch was was recently interviewed by artist Kathy Davis as part of her “Inside the Artist's Studio” series. They discussed art, design and the creative process, as well as Patch's upcoming book,“I Put the Can in Cancer: A Journey Through Pictures” in great detail. You can see the interview on Davis' blog here and Patch's post about the book here.

above is Patch's example of how a $.25 sticker can be the start of a great idea.Clik on the image to learn more about the process.
