HOW LONG DOES A COURSE NEED TO BE?
That is open to your suggestion. Courses can be flexible; they can meet as a one-day workshop for five hours on a Saturday, five-week short courses, up to a ten-week course for 30 contact hours. Courses can be in evening sessions and weekend formats.

WHAT IS THE DURATION OF A CE TERM?
Each term is a ten-week block of time, which includes options for shorter five-week sessions and weekend workshops:
Fall Term: September 29 – December 11, 2014 (Proposals due by May 19, 2014)
Spring Term: February 2 – April 17, 2015
(Proposals due by Sept 1, 2014)
Summer Term: June 1 – August 6, 2015
(Proposals due by Jan 5, 2015)

ARE CE ENRICHMENT COURSES OFFERED FOR CREDIT?
No. All CE enrichment courses are non-credit only. The instructor is required to take attendance and report a grade of Pass or Fail for each student only for recording purposes.

WHAT IS THE COMPENSATION SCALE FOR TEACHING A CONTINUING STUDIES CE ENRICHMENT COURSE?
All Continuing Studies CE courses are non-ranked courses and therefore, are not part of the University’s ranked pay scale. Most courses pay $35 to $40 per contact hour, based on course type and instructor experience/affiliation with UArts.

WHAT ARE THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF A CE ENRICHMENT COURSE INSTRUCTOR?
While the compensation rate for CE instructors is not the same as that of teaching rates in the degree-granting programs, it is important to know that the responsibilities aren’t as great or demanding. Instructors are not expected to be available to students outside of class, and do not need to grade any materials. Everything, outside of the development of the syllabus, and some basic prep, happens in class, during scheduled contact hours.
After submitting a proposal that is approved, instructors are required to:
1.Complete a full syllabus (using the Continuing Studies CE syllabus template)
2.Attend a CE faculty meeting
3.Attend all sessions of class meeting times
4. Submit a P/F grade for each student

WHAT IS THE AVERAGE CLASS SIZE?
Class sizes vary greatly based on course popularity and sometimes the specific needs of a course. The minimum is generally 5 and the maximum is 12-15.

WHAT KIND OF NEW COURSES IS UARTS CE LOOKING FOR?
We seek to offer a wide variety of original, different and exciting arts and arts-related courses through CE. They can be short or span a number of weeks in the evenings. We want unique courses that are not currently offered at UArts or by one of our competitors. They should fall into an arts-related area, including (but certainly not limited to) fine arts, crafts, photo/filmmaking, illustration, design, movement/dance, music/voice/music technology, theater, arts appreciation, Philadelphia arts/culture, museum visits/theater performance visits and critiques, fashion, interior design and/or “design for living.”

WHAT ARE THE EXPECTED COURSE OUTCOMES?
Courses can be project based, emphasize skills development or a combination – but ultimately should also focus on student enjoyment. Courses should not have prerequisites or require skill sets obtained prior to entering the course.

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS IS
UARTS CE SEEKING IN AN IDEAL CE ENRICHMENT COURSE INSTRUCTOR?
Clearly we are looking for individuals with dynamic personalities, a passion and expertise in their area and a love of sharing that passion. Ideally, we seek to hire instructors with teaching experience in similar environments and terminal or master’s degrees, but we are open to considering other experience as well.
