My cardboard mask is a rabbit with some humn qualities. The rabbit is recognizable by the ears and the teeth. The human qualities can be seen in the eyes. The eyes are centered on the front of the face like a human’s whereas a rabbit’s are anchored on either side of the head. The eyes have a human-like lid and almond shape to them. I asked people around me what they noticed first about my appearance and they said my eyes so I chose to make those a large and emphasized feature. I chose to portray myself as part rabbit because I have two pet rabbits that are a large part of my life. I feel like my personality resembles that of a rabbit as well. In my opinion, I come off as very timid and nonthreatening like a rabbit. I felt that a rabbit best represents my outward appearrance as well as my personality.
To construct the mask I began to cut the silhouette of the rabbit persona from the profile view and from the frontal view. I cut slits in these vertical pieces and used hot glue to connect and secure them. I created many different horizontal layers to attach in the four sections created by the two vertical intersecting layers. Each layer added volume to the mask created different elevations of the face. I used hot glue to connect all of these pieces. I cut out the eyes and the facial features separately and attached those vertical pieces to the horizontal planes of the basic shape of the head.
